Large Grip Grape Vine Wood Pen or Mechanical Pencil, Ergonomic Grip for More Comfortable Writing, Fancy Pen, Handmade Pen, Arthritis Pencil

This wood ballpoint twist pen is hand turned by Opie in a larger grip meant to be more comfortable for people with joint, nerve or other conditions that make slim pens difficult or painful to use. As a pen this is refillable with Cross style ballpoint refills and it can also be purchased as a mechanical pencil and we will change out the hardware before sending it to you! Every item that my Opie and I make is lovingly, slowly, mindfully handcrafted.  Each is it’s own unique little piece of functional art. My husband makes his own blanks which are the wood blocks that are put on the lathe to be turned into pens, pencils, seam rippers etc.  This is so that we can choose our wood for functionality, aesthetics and sustainability. This also gives him the ability to make them any size that he wants, allowing him to turn larger grip writing instruments or handles so as to be comfortable to a greater diversity of people with different needs. All of the designs on the wood are my own, freehand drawn and then burned on.  I don’t ever repeat a design, although I will explore a theme. I paint the wood with watercolor paints. When I’m done I usually hand them back to Opie and he seals them with a friction polish on the lathe and then installed the hardware.  If the paint designs involves tiny details that will be lost in process of friction polishing, like stars on a night sky, I finish them by hand with shellac.
